LIFE IS LIKE A PLAY (2023) is a unique coming-of-age story about a nonbinary teen coming to terms with the loss of their best friend.

dir. Olivia Carter, prod. Lauren Ferro

It’s always nice to collaborate with a director who wants to be heavily involved in the image-making process. It’s doubly nice when that director has strong opinions on what they like and dislike about an image. This film got me out of my comfort zone in a lot of ways; there are a lot of locations and a lot of different looks. We had a lot of material to shoot over the course of 4 days, and with little time for setup, I worked with the gaffer to light locations rather than shots and to maximize our usage of natural light and practicals; an approach to lighting I’ve never taken before.

This film is currently playing in festivals.
